Communication change must be a driving force in the fashion sector’s climate response if it is to contribute to the goals of the Paris Agreement, according to a consultation led by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). This session will explore the future of storytelling to engage audiences, leading with science based information to change behaviours and taking action to encourage sustainable values and aspirations.

Garment longevity can play a useful role in achieving the Paris Agreement goals. Material efficiency is a key contributor to energy efficiency, as well as product care information being readily available to citizens. Different approaches to sharing product care information may be needed over time in response to both market and technological evolutions, setting the task for industry experts to work together to enable and help promote garment longevity, as well as fostering the production of more sustainable products and achieving supply chain transparency for citizens.

There is a fundamental need to establish innovative and scalable solutions for next generation materials, and factor circular principles and fibres into the fashion form of the future. Participants will discuss how this demand can feed into design and product development practices to achieve circular ambitions, including the application of realistic and actionable challenges.

About

The BFC has a critical role in accelerating a transition to a circular fashion economy in the UK and beyond, acting as the convenor for change across actors in the ecosystem. It is uniquely placed to shape policy and industry regulations, particularly through dialogue with government and industry, as well as all other stakeholders in fashion’s ecosystem.

The Institute of Positive Fashion (IPF) sits at the heart of the British Fashion Council. Focused on creating pathways in response to the climate change agenda, the IPF is helping the British Fashion Industry meet its goal to be more resilient and circular through global collaboration and local action.. Our strategic ambition is to help build the foundations of a circular fashion ecosystem in the UK by 2030 through our flagship programme, the Circular Fashion Ecosystem (CFE) Project.

The CFE Project’s goal is to enable a target state which generates positive change across all pillars, offering a holistic blueprint for change for UK fashion.

Through the IPF Forum, the IPF will use the BFC’s convening power to bring together actors across the ecosystem to address the largest climate-related issues facing industry today. Global experts will be brought together to share their knowledge to fast-track collective positive change.

Through a series of short hacks led by though provoking panel discussions from industry leaders, visionary keynotes, and a glimpse of the future of fashion through an Innovation Showcase, the day will be an inspiring and actions-oriented event where peers across industry will collaborate.
