LETTER FROM THE CEO OF THE BRITISH FASHION COUNCIL CAROLINE RUSH AND ROLAND MOURET
July 2019
Dear Designer
The British Fashion Council and Roland Mouret are joining forces in a campaign to bring the fashion
industry together to lead in ambitious environmental action, for a more sustainable and greener
future.
As part of our Positive Fashion initiative we are reaching out to you as industry leaders, to help clean
up our oceans and support a fashion revolution against single-use plastic in the process.
Based on current trajectories by 2050 there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish.
An estimated 40 billion hangers are produced for the US fashion industry alone. The majority of these
will be used once with 85% ending up in landfill, taking more than 1,000 years to degrade.
Join us by committing to SWITCH to BLUE and replace your sample hangers from a single-use plastic
solution with no circular life cycle, to Arch & Hook marine plastic hangers.
The Arch & Hook BLUE® hanger is made from a mixture of marine plastic and toxic waste found in
our seas -
Once removed from the ocean, the plastic is sorted, separated, shredded, transported and then
prepared as raw material for re-use
The sourcing of plastic used for the hangers actively removes plastic from our oceans and minimises
additional production
The hangers are manufactured at source keeping the carbon footprint as low as possible
The Arch & Hook BLUE® hanger resembles a standard hanger and is equally as durable
Our industry has the power to be a catalyst for global change and we hope we can add your name
to the list of brands and businesses contributing to cleaner oceans and a more sustainable fashion
future. Please find attached more information on the campaign and a Letter of Intent to place an
introductory order.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Roland Mouret, Designer & Caroline Rush, Chief Executive, British Fashion Council
